There’s something magical about photographing homes in winter—especially in Door County. This shoot was one of those days where everything felt still, quiet, and completely wrapped in white.
As I pulled up to the property, the house almost blended into the landscape—a beautiful white home surrounded by fresh, untouched snow. The sky was soft and gray, the kind that diffuses light perfectly, making everything feel calm and almost dreamlike. From the road, the house looked like it had been gently placed in the middle of a snow globe
I started outside, walking carefully through the snow to capture different angles. Every step crunched under my boots as I circled the property, looking for the best way to show its character. The contrast was subtle—white siding against white snow—but that’s where composition really matters. A shift in angle, a line of trees in the background, a shadow falling just right—those details are what bring the home forward.
From one side, the home felt tucked away and private. From another, it opened up to the landscape, inviting and peaceful. I made sure to capture each perspective because every angle told a slightly different story. And then, stepping inside—it was like entering a completely different world.
The warmth hit first. Not just the temperature, but the feeling. the interior carried the same white tones as the exterior, but here, it felt soft, layered, and incredibly cozy. Light bounced gently off the walls, and textures—throws, wood accents, soft furnishings—added depth and comfort.
You could almost imagine the scene playing out: kids outside just minutes before, bundled up and laughing, building snowmen and running through the yard. Cheeks red from the cold, boots covered in snow. And then the door opens—warm air rushing out to meet them as they step inside, shedding layers and settling into that quiet, comforting space.
That’s the feeling I wanted to capture. Check out some of the photos from the shoot below then keep reading.
As I moved from room to room, I focused on how the light filled each space. The way a corner chair invited you to sit. The way the kitchen felt open but still intimate. The way the whole home wrapped around you, especially after being out in the cold.
Photographing a home like this isn’t just about showing rooms—it’s about telling that story. The contrast between outside and inside. Cold and warmth. Stillness and life.
By the time I packed up, the light was beginning to fade, and the house once again blended into the snowy landscape. Quiet. Peaceful. Almost hidden.
But now, through these images, its story stands out.
