There are certain rooms in a home that naturally draw attention.
The kitchen where family gathers. The living room where everyone comes together. The porch where summer evenings seem to last forever.
And then there's the bathroom.
It may not be the largest room in the house, but as any Wisconsin homeowner knows, it can be one of the most important. In fact, unless you have pets or small children who somehow always know where you are, the bathroom might just be the closest thing to a private retreat you'll find in your home.
As a real estate photographer, I've learned that bathrooms tell a story all their own.
When I walk into a well-designed bathroom, I don't just see a vanity, a shower, or a soaking tub. I see the quiet moments that happen there. The first cup of coffee enjoyed in peace before the rest of the house wakes up. The hot shower after a long day shoveling snow. The warm bath on a cold Wisconsin winter evening when the wind is rattling the windows outside.
The best bathrooms create a feeling.
Sometimes it's the sunlight pouring through a frosted window. Sometimes it's the clean simplicity of white tile and polished fixtures. Other times it's a luxurious soaking tub positioned beneath a window overlooking the woods or a backyard blanketed in fresh snow.
When photographing a home, I look for those details. The textures. The light. The sense of calm.
Buyers do, too.
A beautiful bathroom isn't just about function. It's about imagining a space where you can slow down for a few minutes and escape the demands of the day.
That's why bathrooms often become some of the most memorable photographs in a real estate listing. They help buyers picture themselves living there, not just sleeping there.
In Wisconsin, where winters are long and home is often our favorite place to be, the bathroom becomes more than a necessity. It's a place to recharge, relax, and find a little peace and quiet.
And sometimes, that's exactly what makes a house feel like home.
